eWHORM Shares Latest Research at ICOPA 2026 in Montréal, Canada

From 16–21 August 2026, members of the eWHORM consortium attended the International Congress of Parasitology (ICOPA 2026) in Montréal, Canada, where they shared recent advances in the development of new treatments for worm infections.

Marc Hübner presented “Oxfendazole: A Pan-Nematode Drug Candidate”, highlighting the clinical development of oxfendazole and its ongoing evaluation within eWHORM across four sub-Saharan African countries. Jenny Keiser presented results from a Phase 2a clinical trial on Pemba Island, Tanzania, showing promising efficacy and safety of oxfendazole against Trichuris trichiura infections.

In his presentation “New Drugs Against NTDs – Up for Paradigm Shifts in the Control of NTDs”, Achim Hörauf discussed advances in the development of new drugs against neglected tropical diseases and the potential of new macrofilaricidal treatments, including oxfendazole, to help overcome current barriers to the elimination of filarial infections.

Together, the contributions highlighted the progress being made towards new, safe and effective treatment options that could support efforts to eliminate worm infections in endemic countries.
